Instagram is Testing a New, Simpler Way to React to Stories

I’m sure we’ve all jumped on the bandwagon of reacting to friends posts and messages via an emoji on Facebook which launched in 2016. Well, Instragam is trialing just that through “stories”.

As us Instagram users already know, the option to comment on a story which goes straight to the persons DM’s (or Direct Message Inbox) or sharing a story with a friend are both great features but Instagram is making it even easier for us to react to stories through emoji.

This allows you to quickly “react” to a story through a set of emoji instead of filling up someones DM’s.

Only the person who posted the story is able to see this, appearing in the viewer’s list.

This awesome feature is only being tested in selected countries, however, if rolled out to the masses this will be the perfect way to get closer to friends and eliminate clogging up someone’s inbox and make responding quicker!

What do you think?

Is messaging becoming too reliant on emojis?

Instagram Apps we’ve recently discovered

I’ve been searching for apps to up our Instagram game.

Here’s a list of a few that we thought might help YOU.

Hype Type

They Say: “Hype your Stories with automatically styled and designed motion typography.

Stand out.
Don’t use those tired tools that everyone else uses and expect your content to shine bright, like a diamond.

Short of words? We got you.
With the tap of a magical little button automatically pull random, meaningful quotes to give context to your story that may have not been there to start. ”

We Say: An awesome app to take your Instagram stories to the next level.

Adobe Spark

They Say: “Adobe Spark is a free online and mobile graphic design app. Easily create beautiful images, videos, and web pages that make you stand out on social”

We Say: This is our GO-TO app for all things social. Trust us on this one and download the app immediately, if not sooner!

Cut Stories

They Say: “Just import a long video, and CutStory will cut it up and save it in your smartphone’s camera roll as fragments of 15 seconds or any other length”

We Say:  Genious! Who hasn’t wanted their video to stop cutting out on Insta Stories, right at a critical moment?

Also, take a look at Continual which does the same thing!

Tell me, what apps are you loving at the moment? I’d be interested to discover more!

Obama’s social success

As The President’s reign comes to an end, it seems apt to look at some of the social media tricks that Obama does well.

Presenting a focused and clear message – Remember Hope?

Barack_Obama_Hope_poster

It’s a one word slogan that created buzz and worked to build Obama’s profile.

Authenticity – Obama signs off social media posts, authored by him with -BO anything else is tagged appropriately. That way the audience knows who has written what and takes the post to the next level of engagement.

Empower those that support you  – celebrities including Oprah, Bradley Cooper and Tiger Woods have all met Obama and through their own ways their support has further promoted Obama’s profile.

Three very simple ways your business can succeed online.

New Emojis on the way

We’ve heard via various social media news sites that some new emojis are on the way.

The release date is slated for June 21st (US time) and the new emojis will add to the already expansive image collection.

For those brands associated with health the “sneezing face” emoji will be popular, as will the man in tuxedo for wedding businesses, just as the handshake will be popular for businesses of all sizes!

Instagram changes

So the changes we’ve been discussing have started to appear on a number of users accounts.

Along with the change in people’s feed, is the change in logo for the app.

Much has been said about the logo, comparing it to a vintage template for Microsoft’s PowerPoint.

If your business wants engaging Instagram posts, contact us, we can consult your business to create “share-worthy” images.

Update on Facebook pages

A while ago we posted on the changes Facebook made to business pages and how you access other pages through your business page.

You can find this post here.

The team at Social Media Today contacted Facebook about returning the function to “use as page”, the response is below.

UPDATE: Facebook responded to our request, though only to confirm the change had been put into effect, not why. Here’s their response:

“We’ve deprecated the ability to login and use Facebook as the Page you manage. However, we’ve built parallel features to enable you to do all of the same things you could previously do, without requiring you to use Facebook as your Page.

Using Business Manager is one great option. The following link will instruct you on how to set up Business Manager. http://bit.ly/23W3cwC

If you would rather not go that route, this article from our Help Center describes how to post, like or comment as your Page: http://bit.ly/23W3d3L.”

So, it appears that Facebook is sticking with their decision to remove the ability to “use page as”.

Why likes, is better than notifications for Instagram

Last night saw many Instagram business accounts in a flurry because “word” had got out that Instagram was going to implement their timeline changes.

Instagram later assured users changes were NOT being rolled out and that they would notify the community as and when this will occur.

So, what should businesses do now?Screen Shot 2016-03-29 at 1.10.05 pm

Engage. Engage. Engage.

Get people to like your images. Why not encourage notifications?

Think about it, everyone turns on notifications for a handful of their favourite businesses. After a while, it gets annoying, having that notification pop up on your phone that *someone else* has posted a picture.

Suggest to your followers that they should like your images, which will further help your brand rank higher in the upcoming changes, once Instagram announces what / when they’re going to do. THEN you may want to encourage people to turn on notifications.
